Rivers LG Poll: Politics Not Do Or Die, APP Candidate Tells Opposition

The Ward 14 Councillorship Candidate of the Action Peoples Party APP, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr. Wobo Bright Ike, has condemned the attempt by some opposition parties in the state to truncate the LG poll.

Ike who said that politics was not a do or die affair, urged members of other political parties to eschew violence, embrace peace and support whoever emerged winner for the good of the state and its people.

The APP candidate from Rukpokwu community stated this in an interview with TNN, while confirming that he had casted his vote. Ike who said he was hopeful that the outcome of the election would be favourable, expressed satisfaction with the turnout of electorate which he said was massive, adding that the election was peaceful.

According to him, “so far, from reports I am getting from the polling unit agents, the election is peaceful and there is massive turnout of voters. People came out en masse to vote for APP and other political party of their choice.

“I want to sincerely appreciate the people of Ward 14 for their peaceful conduct and so far we are hopeful.”

The APP candidate assured that if he emerges winner, “as a lawmaker, we are going to make byelaws that will benefit our people, we will not make laws that will cause chaos in the state just like what we are seeing from the other camp.”

He added that, “we are going to ensure we carry out youth empowerment, we are going to carry the women and men along, we are going to consistently engage the people of ward 14 to ensure smooth running of the government.”

To members of other political parties, Ike said, “I believe in politics without bitterness, after now, it is governance and we are going to work with everybody to ensure we achieve our set target for Ward 14, so we are going to extend hands of fellowship to everybody; whether APP, APC, Labour Party by the grace of God we are going to work together.

When asked what he would do if he loses in the election, Ike said, “ politics It’s not a do or die affair, it is politics, but I am hopeful.”
