Impeachment Plot Aimed To Frighten Fubara -Youth Leader

A youth leader and member of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, in Rivers State, Mr Victor Dike, has described the impeachment move against the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu, as childish, immature and frivolous.

Dike in an interview with TNN on Friday, said the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule and members of the state house of assembly, had nothing against the governor, insisting Fubara has not gone contrary to the Constitution.

He said their actions was following Fubara’s refusal to dance to the gallery of their master, the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

Dike gave this reaction shortly after the press briefing by the assembly members, who insisted that the impeachment process would continue, describing it as the only solution to the political crisis in the state.

Affirming that it was part of the legislative duties of lawmakers to impeach a governor, Dike insisted that Fubara and Odu, did not commit any impeachable offense.

He expressed shock that the member representing Khana Constituency I, Barile Nwakoh, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, made a U-turn less than three days after urging their colleagues to embrace dialogue.

Insisting that the state deserved better than such distraction from the assembly, Dike dared that Amaewhule and the other members could not impeach Fubara and his deputy.

His words, “the whole drama is childish, immature and frivolous because the house of assembly has the sole responsibility as provided by the Constitution to actually impeach the governor should the governor misbehave in his line of executive duty but in this case you see something that has already been planned, that is why you see too many drama.

“If actually the governor had gone contrary to the Constitution what does it take to impeach him, what, do they have anything to hold them back? the fact is there is nothing to hold hand on, there is no blame on the governor.”

He noted that, “this is like the second or third attempt to impeach him, so is the governor so huge, so mighty, so mountainous that they cannot impeach, so that gives you the answer, the answer is clear.

“They have nothing against the governor, it’s just to threaten and frighten him but unfortunately for them, the governor is not fidgeting, he is calm in all their bullies.

“What does it take to impeach the governor if the governor has gone contrary to the constitution? Their allegations are frivolous, they felt the governor could be manipulated, go to the left he will go, push him to the right he follows, go to the center when he is supposed to go to the left he stays there, that’s what they felt he could have done.”

To Wike, he urged him to “sheath his sword because there is no need for this, Sir, your excellency please sheath your sword and allow peace in Rivers State.”
