The immediate past Vice President and presidential candidate of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Chief Nengi James-Eriworio, has withdrawn and discontinued his case relating to the April 10, 2026 INC election.
James-Eriworio had dragged the foremost Ijaw sociocultural organisation before a High Court sitting in Yenagoa Bayelsa State, and presided over by SI
Justice Amadise Micheal Ekadi, citing irregularities in the processes that led to the conduct of the election which was won by Chief McDonald Igbadiwei.
In suit number: BYHC/YHC/CV/206/2026, social commentator has mentioned the immediate past president of the INC, Prof. Benjamin Okaba and the electoral committee led by Retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Francis Tabai as co-defendants.
In a statement he personally signed, the human rights activist said he decided to withdraw the law suit due to his love for the peace, unity and progress of the Ijaw nation.
“Peace is strength. Unity is progress. The Ijaw Nation must stand together,” James-Eriworio, who is also an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), stated.
Some concerned Ijaw opinion leaders are also commending James-Eriworio for the gesture.
“Alabo Nengi James has shown that he is truly a unity ambassador of Ijaw Nation and has demonstrated commitment to the peace, unity, and collective progress of the Ijaw Nation by honouring his part of the agreement in the interest of lasting peace and oneness.
“This is a commendable demonstration of maturity, sacrifice, and patriotism. At a time when unity is paramount, choosing peace over prolonged disputes sends a powerful message that the collective interest of the Ijaw nation must always come first,” a man simply identified as Ebifouwei, said.
