The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement and member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Unyime Idem, has reaffirmed his commitment to promote transparency, accountability and efficiency in public finance management.
This is coming on the heels of a high-level engagement between the house of representatives member and the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF).
The engagement took place when the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi paid a courtesy visit on Idem at his office in the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
During the meeting, both leaders held strategic discussions on strengthening collaboration between the House Committee on Public Procurement and the office of the accountant general of the federation.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in the implementation of Nigeria’s public financial management framework, with particular emphasis on improving accountability.
It was also to ensure compliance with procurement regulations and supporting the effective execution of the 2026 capital budget.
Idem stressed the importance of synergy among critical government institutions in safeguarding public resources and ensuring that budgetary allocations translate into tangible development outcomes for Nigerians.
He maintained that effective oversight, prudent financial management and strict adherence to the Public Procurement Act remain indispensable to achieving value for money in government expenditure and strengthening public confidence in national institutions.
The federal lawmaker further noted that collaboration between the National Assembly and key financial management agencies was essential to entrenching transparency.
He added that such engagements were meant to improve fiscal discipline and support the federal fovernment’s ongoing reforms aimed at delivering efficient and accountable governance.
The engagement also underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to fostering a procurement and financial management system that alignes with global best practices.
It also ensured that public funds were managed in accordance with the constitution and relevant statutory provisions.
Idem reaffirmed the readiness of the house committee on public procurement to continue working closely with the office of the AGF and other relevant institutions in advancing reforms that promote transparency, accountability, due process and sustainable national development.
The meeting marked another significant step in strengthening institutional cooperation toward building a more efficient, accountable and results-driven public financial management system for the benefit of all Nigerians.
