Newly inaugurated chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Rivers State chapter, Susan Serekara-Nwikhana, has revealed how she emerged for the second term as the chairperson of the association.
Serekara-Nwikhana gave this explanation in her acceptance speech during the 8th Triennial Delegates Conference of the association, at the Ernest Ikoli Press Center of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
She said that her emergence was following the support, love and cooperation of members of the association.
Describing her return for the second term as a rare honour and privilege, the NAWOJ chair said, “I’m deeply humbled to be elected as your chairperson for the second term, more so unopposed.
“I’m grateful that you have again placed your faith and trust in me to be your chief servant for another three years.”
Serekara-Nwikhana assured members of the association that she and other executives will not put the association to shame.
According to her “serving NAWOJ in this capacity for another term has been a great joy I’m grateful for. But I must admit that my emergence as your second term chairperson unopposed was not an easy accomplishment.
“Many people worked tirelessly for it. Just like my First Term bid, my second term journey to this office initially looked too daunting, almost like a mission that cannot be accomplished. But God in His infinite mercies used some people to make the task a seamless one.
“It is on this note that I once again thank the following people, in no particular order, who assisted in making my second term bid a reality. The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Joseph Johnson; my wonderful National President, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim; my large-hearted predecessor, leader and Deputy National President, Dr (Mrs) Lilian Okonkwo-Ogabu; my amiable Zonal President, Mrs Stella Macauley, and of course, my boss and mentor, Mr. Boye Salau and my deputy Daba Benebo, I’m grateful.
“I also want to appreciate the three members of the credentials committee for their services to the association. Mrs. Ilanye Jumbo, Dr Ijeoma Tubosia and Chiweta Nwagbara, thank you for your fairness and transparency.
“Above all, I want to thank all NAWOJIANS for your support, love and cooperation throughout my first term and during the electioneering process. You all are simply amazing. I solicit more cooperation and support from you to enable us succeed in office. I welcome your constructive criticisms. I want to continue hearing your ideas, getting your feedback and finding more ways I and my Executive can serve you better.”
She promised that with the support and cooperation of NAWOJ members “I and my executive will not disappoint you. We shall not let you down. We shall strive to uphold and uplift the noble objectives of NAWOJ. Once again, thank you for the opportunity given to me and my members of the Executive Council to serve you. God bless you all.”
