A hide and seek game at the Cross River State House of Assembly Service Commission has forced the governor, Senator Bassey Otu to order the shut down of the commission.
The governor had been misled by the commission into approving a junior official as clerk of the state house of assembly. It was so embarrassing that the governor had to bury his pride and sack Mr. Patrick Edi as clerk, barely 24 hours after his appointment was confirmed.
In his place, Mrs Catherine Ubi was appointed. But the governor who was obviously embarrassed by the action of officials of the commission had to wield the big stick.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, in a letter dated March 18, 2024, which was read on the floor of the House of Assembly by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem on March 19, 2024 said the commission remains suspended till further notice.
Matthew Okache, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker quoted the SSG as saying that the suspension became necessary following the House of Assembly Commission’s failure to reveal the correct seniority order of the eligible staff members for the position of Clerk of the House of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
