The statement credited to the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, that the federal government should declare a state of emergency in the state has been highly condemned by the leadership of D-Young Elite Advocacy Forum D-YEAF.
D-YEAF Coordinator, Mr. Opurum Loveday C and Secretary, Mr. Bright Nnadi, described it as a ‘Propagandist Call’.
They described as laughable and shameful the claim that the state governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the Police were helpless over the political crisis in the state.
According to them, “we have meticulously analyzed Chief Tony’s position, both verbal and non-verbal gestures in his remark and have concluded that Chief Tony is not only operating like a disappointed inconsistent and politically displaced man but also like someone who is instigated by some forces to do what he ordinarily should not do.
“Stating that the Governor of Rivers State and the Police are helpless in the State is quite laughable and shows how blindfolded and Insensitive Chief Tony is over the happenings in the State. This is quite pathetic and miserably shameful.
“Chief Tony’s political history/pedigree in Rivers State is known to most political actors in the State. We are aware how he destabilized APC here in Rivers State some years ago, by causing and sponsoring mayhem, ranchor and division among his political family and has remained politically inconsistent and uninfluential till date except for and among the few he is spoon feeding.
“Chief Tony’s seemingly political dynasty collapsed long ago after he betrayed his boss, His Excellency Rt Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi the former Governor of Rivers State hence his ceaseless engagement on controversial political Issues to gain cheap political relevance which is not forthcoming.
“We call on the Executive Governor of Rivers State His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS to reman focused and not be derailed or give a single thought to the empty blabbings and mere verbosity of Chief Tony.
“Rivers people especially D-YEAF knows and understands his political antics and gimmicks and we are equally ready to address it.”
The group added that, “we are not ignorant of the fact that Chief Tony is on the opposition side and as such may not be required to support the policies of the current administration but to vehemently criticize it, however we warn him to cease forthwith the instigation, incition, ignition and tactical sponsoring of mayhem in Rivers State to justify his propaganda/unhealthy media briefing.
“In as much as the issue of peace and security should be everyone’s concern, it is condemnable for someone to play politics with it by raising a false alarm or propagandizing the subject.”
D-YEAF urged security agencies in the state to “hold Chief Tony responsible should there be any break down of law and order in Rivers State. Rivers State is peaceful, the people are going about their normal businesses, the police in the State by the directive of the IG are doing their bit etc so why is Chief Tonye now beating drum of war, attempting to ignite fire in an atmosphere of tranquility and decorum.
“Finally, we urge the general public not to be tensed and disregard Chief Tony’s unguarded statement and deceptive political ideologies. Rivers State is peaceful and must remain so both before and after the Appeal Court Judgement.
“His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara is a man of peaceful disposition and progressive/productive political ideology and as such we won’t support or allow any chronic political business man to derail His Excellency and cause unnecessary tension in the State. Rivers State must Advance.”
