While commuters continue to groan over the increase in the cost of transportation, motorists have expressed dismay over the incessant hike in petrol pump price.

Residents of Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, have reacted differently to the declaration by the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that “fuel subsidy is gone”.

The declaration which has led to the hike of petrol pump price has generated mixed feelings. While some respondents blamed the president, claiming he has put the nation in a state of doom, there are those who stated otherwise.

TNN, visited some areas in Port Harcourt. This is what some of the respondents had to say:

It is unfortunate that Nigeria is going from frying pan to fire, this is the situation we have come to find ourselves, from frying pan to fire. This is Starchem filling station, Woji Road, just now I bought fuel for N520, and it is even cheaper compared to other places, go and check, some are selling N600, N700 and even N800.

My happiness is that we are all suffering it, both those that voted Tinubu and we that did not, we are all suffering it. We were praying for Buhari administration to end, but if we had known, we would have prayed for him to continue because this is times two of what we were suffering before.

My sister, the way it affect me is that transport now is increasing, that is it, I come from Rumuola, before it is N100 to here, but now, Rumuola to here(Artillery) is N200, how much is the gain, how much? Every day I come here now, I spend N400 for just transport, and I will eat, so, they should help us, government should help us.

My anger is that people are calling driver, driver, cursing drivers instead of government. Before, I know how much I use to take to the house everyday, even with the N50, but now, even as we are collecting N100, it is very, very small, the difference is much. We are crying, passengers are crying, everybody is suffering it, so, please, please, please, they should help us, please.

Thank you for this opportunity. My own is very simple, let us leave Tinubu, it is not Tinubu, the problem is that we, we Nigerians are our own enemies, we are our own problem, yes, ask me how, no, just ask me how. Fuel subsidy removal was declared today, those who stored fuel yesterday before the announcement were the first to increase the price. What most of the filling stations are selling like this are old stock. When pump price is reduced they will say wait let’s finish our old stock, but when increase happens, poooom, immediately the price will go up. First, let us love ourselves as Nigerians, stop taking undue advantage of every situation. Cashless policy, cashless policy, we survived, I believe we will survive this one too. Thank you.
