For Moving To Bring FMC To Abi/Yakurr, Royal Father Hails C’River Rep

Paramount ruler of Yakurr and Obol Lopon of Ugep, HRM Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng is full of praises for Dr Alex Egbona, the member representing Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State in the House of Representatives, for the moves to attract a federal medical centre to the federal constituency.

The royal father told TNN over the telephone on Monday that the lawmaker did not disappoint the people who voted for him in 2019 and in 2023. He said it was heart-warming to know that Egbona has been embarking on people-oriented projects and programmes for the constituency since he got into the Green Chambers.

Ubana said he was elated when he got information about the federal medical centre which is to be sited at Itigidi and recalled that Egbona played a great role towards the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic, Ugep.

“I have been happy since I heard the news of the federal medical centre. Somebody called me from Calabar and asked if I was aware of the plans for the FMC and I said yes. It is a thing of joy. Alex is our son. He is an Ugep man.

“I have said before now, that Alex is naturally from Ugep. Igbo-Ekureku and Ugep people cannot see each oher’s blood. He is our son and we are proud of him and what he is doing. It is a wonderful thing,” the king said.

Apart from the royal father, many people from the federal constituency have expressed joy over the move to bring the hospital to Itigidi and are looking forward to it with so much excitement.

Egbona sponsored the bill for the establishment of the hospital since last year. The bill has so far gone through the first and second reading and a public hearing has since been conducted on it.

Last week, the chairman of the committee on health institutions, Amos Gwamna Magaji had presented a report based on the public hearing on the floor of the House for consideration.

The next expected thing is for the senate to give concurrence and it will be passed into law, waiting for the accent of the president, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
