Flood Ravages Wike’s Secondary School

There are signals of a possible shut down of activities in the government secondary school, Eneka, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, as flood ravages the school where the state governor, Nyesom Wike attended.
While farmers rejoice, people’s houses and places of learning have been submerged in the flood. The case of government secondary school, Eneka is better witnessed than described as students are subjected to pulling their socks and sandals while swimming through the highly flooded area in and out of their classes especially those in the senior secondary.
The natural disaster has not only rendered the school impassable and completely irritating but is also posing serious threat to the lives and health of students and staff of the school.
The staff quarters, the dining hall, the laboratory and even the school’s market square, where snacks are sold are indeed a gory sight to behold.
Apart from the fact that grasses have taken over every nook and cranny of the environment, the entrances, both the main gate and other unauthorized exit and entry points known as apiam way(short cuts) tells more of the pitiable state of the school.
When TNN visited the school during the week, the principal of the senior secondary session had insisted that they obtain authorization letter from the governor before an issue of such magnitude be reported.
However, most students had expressed fear that the unkempt state of the school environment poses severe danger to their lives, adding that reptiles such as snake among other harmful creatures might force them out of the school soon.
The principal of the junior secondary section, Chief Mrs Emilia Amadi who did not hesitate to welcome the journalist during the visit, acknowledged that the schoolwas going through difficult times posed by the environment but noted that in no distant time, it would be taken care of.
“Our amiable governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is not relenting, the matter we are sure, is already before him. We are very hopeful that sooner than expected, the glory of this school will be restored.
“Indeed, the school is in a pitiable condition, we are still appealing to the governor, to please, intervene as soon as possible like he is known for.
“He had promised us construction of the Eneka-Rukpokwu road which he did, we are not ignorant of the much he has on his table but we still appeal to him to save government secondary school from decaying and we strongly hope in his quick response.
“Our governor, is a governor that understands the feelings of his people; he doesn’t play politics with their plight, he feels the pain of Rivers people and does everything to salvage them. That is why we are very hopeful that this case will not be different, he should please come to our rescue.”
