FG Confers With Textile Production Stakeholders, Targets Boom In Sector


To buoy up growth in the nation’s economy, the federal government has taken steps to engage key players in the Cotton, Textiles and Garments, CTG, sectors in what has been seen as a practical step to revive the sector.
On Wednesday, the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, through the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, initiated an interface with stakeholders in the respective sectors.
At the event, the stakeholders drew a road map for the resuscitation of the CTG sectors, with the minister underscoring their importance to the nation’s economy, taking into consideration, the renewed hope agenda of the government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said the main thrust of the synergy was to get all players to work with the government to draw a road map towards revitalising one of Nigeria’s most strategic sectors to ensure sustainable growth and development in line with global best practices.
Saying that there was an urgent need to strengthen the sector, Owan Enoh said the president was very interested in the creating of job opportunities and reasoned that the desire of the president could be realised if the sector is revived.
Apart from direct job opportunities, the minister also said the CTG sector had immense potentials to boost exports and drive national prosperity and sought the collaboration and input of the stakeholders in that direction.


He reaffirmed FMITI’s commitment to supporting the sector through enabling policies and institutional frame work, while also assuring of a robust policy tailored that would ensure sustainable development.
Also speaking, the Director of Industrial Development Department in the ministry, Muhammad Bala, stressed the importance of finalising the policy document to fully rejuvenate the CTG sector.
According to him, “this document is set to serve as a blueprint for long-term growth and development, integrating strategies that reflect international standards.”
