Families of Children Raped, Killed In Rivers Seek Justice

Mr and Mrs Onuche, of Rumukwurushi Community in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, are in agony following the rape and gruesome killing of their seven years old daughter, Chizaram Onuche and her seven years old female cousin, Chidinma Onuche.

The incident which occured on Monday, March 24, 2025, have left everyone in shock, wondering how a human being could perpetrate such inhuman act against two innocent children.

The corpses of the two girls, whose fathers are siblings, have been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital UPTH morgue.

They were said to have been reportedly killed by their neighbour, who filled their blood in a water bottle, and removed some parts of their body.

According to report, they were sent by the said neighbour on errand, when they returned, he allegedly lured them inside, raped and killed them.

Though the owner of the building fled, but the state Police command said three persons have been arrested in connection to the crime.

During interview, TNN could not speak with the parent of one of the deceased girls who could be reached because they are deaf and dump.

Speaking onbehalf of the parent, Mrs. Linda Ojims who is the deceased children’s aunt and the family lawyer and her colleague, Mr. Peter Ojeka, confirmed the incident.

Ojims explained that, “right now I am at UPTH morgue, the mortuary where we came to see the corpse of the children. I am with the family and also my colleague came with me, we are here with the Police IPO and other offices investigating the matter, we are here.

“We heard that three persons have been arrested in connection with this crime. So we are looking at going back to the station to know what else we need to do.”

When our correspondent sought to get more insight as to what really happened, Ojims who could not hold back her tears started crying, our correspondent had to engage her colleague.

On his part, Ojeka charged the Rivers State Police to, “carry out a proper investigation. Three persons have been arrested in connection with this crime. The perpetrator of this crime has confessed according to the police that he actually did it.

“The matter is still under investigation and we intend to follow it from step to step till this matter come to a conclusion.”

He described the incident as “heinous, it is against humanity. In all works of life, in all society rape is a heinous crime not to talk of rape and murder, these little children; seven years old children, what could they have done to deserve this gruesome, inhumane act, what could they have done?

“The children are cousins to each other, the parent to the deceased are of same parents.” he confirmed.
