It expressed worry that, “the purported dissolution of Parliament by a faction as well as the impeachment of the President by another faction has brought the once virile and purposeful IYC to disrepute.”
The meeting which was held in Yenagoa, on Monday, resolved that all parties to the crisis tread carefully and restrain themselves from acts capable of deepening what it described as the unfortunate development.
The Forum also restated that while it is not in a position to take sides with any person or group of persons, it shall continue to support what was right and in the best interest of the Ijaw Nation.
It noted that even though it was aware of various allegations of misconduct, it would be improper to prejudge any of the parties without fair hearing. In the light of this, the Forum resolved as follows:
“1. That all parties (NEC, Parliament, and NECOM) involved in this avoidable crisis are hereby invited for a meeting / hearing on Friday 30th June 2023 by 10.00 am in Yenagoa.
