TNN gathered that it took the intervention of the Nigerian Navy, Police and village divers that eleven of them were rescued, while three were reported dead.

Aniefiok in a telephone interview expressed shock over the incident. According to him, “I don’t know. I can’t find the right adjective to describe how I have been feeling since I heard this heart aching news.

“My dear, I have been in shock, my greatest concern is how the parents of those who lost their lives will cope with this, how? After training a child in the university to study a course such as medicine, at the prime of reaping the fruits of your sacrifices and labour of love, the life of your child is snatched from him or her just like that, in such a way and manner (pause) God forbid.

“Marina Resort is a relaxation, a tourist place, people should go there and find live, get relieved from heaviness, but today, when parents remember Marina Resort, what picture will flash into their mind? I am heart broken, but can’t question God.

“The news is a sad one, very sad one. How can they die like that? Imagine how traumatized those parents are right now for their loss. I don’t know how best to say it but I pray God comforts them and that affliction shall not raise a second time, God will not allow Cross River State to experience such bad news again.”

The Clergy further applauded the decision of the governor, Sen. Bassey Otu, on indefinitely suspending all cruise boat operations as well as other activities at the Marina Resort.

“Yes I am aware and I must say that the governor made a wise decision by that pronouncement of suspension, indefinitely suspending activities at the Marina Resort is a good step, but the incident should be investigated, that boat I don’t think was in good enough condition, the police should carry out a thorough investigation, we are talking about human lives, not chicken.”
