What could have become another explosion was averted in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Wednesday morning as a Toyota Camry car rammed into a turning fuel tanker at the Opolo axis of the capital city.

Residents of the area and motorists were said to have luckily escaped the tragedy of explosion because the tanker involved in the accident had no sooner offloaded its fuel content than the autocrash occurred.
The incident caused traffic gridlock along the Melford Okilo Expressway where the accident occurred near the old NEPA office.
The camry was said to be carrying three passengers, allegedly transporting illegally refined diesel popularly known as ‘kpofire’ when they rammed into the tanker, which was making a u-turn after discharging fuel at a nearby dispensing outlet.
An eye witness said the tanker driver fled the scene immediately after the crash which left the three passengers in the camry injured, hinting that the victims had been rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
Meanwhile, officers from the Nigeria police force and the federal fire service arrived at the scene shortly after accident to contain the situation and restore traffic flow.
