The Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta MOSIEND, Amadi Ama Clan, has vehemently condemned what it described as act of negligence by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited NLNG, situated in Amadi Ama Creek.

MOSIEND also regretted that the alleged negligence by NLNG to put up safety measures has caused a certain fisherman known as Mr. Precious Imabibo, to lose his life while fishing.

It was reported that the deceased drowned after his canoe capsized on Amadi Creek on Saturday. The accident was alleged to have been caused by a speeding NLNG-chartered passenger boat, which the company has promised to investigate.

In a statement on Thursday, by Amadi Ama Clan Chairman, Kingsley Iringe-koko and Secretary, Emmanuel koko, MOSIEND expressed dismay over the incessant accidents happening in the Amadi Ama Creek.

The statement described the absence of safety measures to curtail accidents in the creek as nefarious, odious and barbaric. They urged the NLNG to explore preventive measures to halt further occurrences.

The statement read:

“We The Movement For The Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality In The Niger Delta, (MOSIEND), Amadi Ama Clan. Condemn the nefarous, Odious and Barbaric act by Nigeria Liquefied Natural gas Company situated in Amadi Ama creek.

“The Amadi Ama creek is a place where Amadi Ama do fishing and also look for their daily bread. Amadi Ama creek for the past 15 years has been a channel of NLNG operations from Port Harcourt to Bonny, there has been a regular occurrence of accidents in the Amadi Ama creek with the community fisher men without any compensation.

“It has come to the notice of MOSIEND that there hasn’t been any safety measure put in place since their operations in the Amadi Ama creek. Base on the above, one Mr. Presious Imabibo a fisherman in Amadi Ama lost his life during fishing on the 21st of January, 2024, as a result of unsafe act and negligence on the Amadi Ama creek by NLNG.

“Therefore we are calling on NLNG to: 1) Put in place safety measures in Amadi Ama creek to curtail accident. 2) We are calling on NLNG to adequately compensate the family of Mr. Presious Imabibo. 3) That NLNG should stop using military personnel to harass fishermen in Amadi Ama creek.

“However, I am calling on NLNG to maintain and keep to their social responsibility with the Amadi Ama community and Niger Delta at large, as this will bring about unity, peace, and progress.”
