Egbona Partners NGO On Free Health Services For Abi/Yakurr People

 

 

 

The House of Representatives member from Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, Dr Alex Egbona is partnering some Non Governmental Organisation, AFRIBVAM, as well as the Center for Creative and Innovation Development (ACCID) and Amazing Care Foundation (ACF) to being quality healthcare services to the doorstep of the people of the constituency.

 

 

The organizations have a commitment to work with marginalized sections of the society and empower them to attain dignified quality life. Part of their objective is the empowerment of the less privileged citizens of society through education, skills acquisition and poverty reduction by the approach of wealth creation activities.

They are also out to render healthcare services to the vulnerable citizens in rural communities, alleviate poverty through extensive positive input in agriculture, food preservation and security, undertake studies/research on reproductive health related problems with special emphasis on STIs/HIV/AIDS and mobilize, train and empower underprivileged young people, and women to be economically self-reliant, among other things.

 

 

Already, the NGO has begun the free medical services in parts of the federal constituency and will continue till December 21.
A schedule of activities from the NGO shows that whereas they started giving medical attention to the constituents on December 3 at Adadama and Ekureku, the medical team have been working even during the weekends.

Between December 10 and 11, they were at Usumutong, Igonigoni, Ebom, Ediba and neighbouring communities and will move to Ugep, Idomi and adjoining communities on December 17 and will be there for two days.
Nko and and other Yakurr communities will have their turn on December 19. They will spend three days there.
During the period, according to the team, services will be rendered in the areas of tests and diagnosis, prescription and issuance of medications, conduct of minor surgeries- hyenia, appendicitis, treatment of malaria and typhoid fever, attention to arthritis and rheumatism, eye tests, treatment and issuance of medical eye glasses.

 

 

Those who are benefitting include elderly men and women, youths and the grossly disadvantaged in the benefitting communities. About 1000 persons are being targeted for general treatment and medications and 20 persons for minor surgeries.
Speaking on the initiative, Egbona said it was always a thing of joy for him to put smiles on the faces of his people. According to him, there is no investment that cannot be made to give good health to the people.

“ If 1000 people from this constituency are made to benefit from this free medical programme, it will give me a lot of joy. This, to me, is actually the reason for my existence on earth. I urge my people to take advantage of this programme.”
