Silent Development Revolution On-Going In Bayelsa, Says Alabra

It is good to ask what oil-producing states do with the monthly 13% derivation receipts. For us in Bayelsa State, the government of Senator Douye Diri is not only deploying such funds into changing the physical infrastructure face of the state. It is also at the same time investing hugely in building the capacity of our youths and harnessing their talents in sports.
In less than three years in office, the Prosperity Administration has engendered a revolution that has turned around the sporting narrative about Bayelsa. From the record-breaking victories of the state-sponsored teams, Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens in last year’s AITEO/NFF National Challenge Cup to Bayelsa Queens winning the Nigerian Women Football League this year and representing Nigeria on the continent to Bayelsa United gaining promotion to the country’s elite league, Bayelsa’s story has not been this pleasant in sports.
With Diri, Other PDP Chieftains, Atiku Gains Grounds In Bayelsa
Again, this investment just manifested in the wonderful performance of our contingent at the just concluded National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba, Delta State. Never in the history of our state has it recorded such exhilarating performance. When athletes are properly motivated and remunerated, the results will show.
It is worth recalling that at the NSF last year in Edo State, Bayelsa for the first time placed third behind winners, Delta, and the host, Edo. It posted a total of 169 medals – 56 Gold, 55 Silver and 58 Bronze.
So, placing second and doubling the state’s medal haul in this edition was not mere happenstance. Rather it took commitment, serious planning and, of course, investment of funds in the athletes and in sporting infrastructure.
We do not make noise. But pregnancy will always show at maturity.
The table below tells the story about our contingent’s heartwarming performance.
