As part of efforts to alleviate the hardship faced by flood victims, the member representing the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr Alex Egbona, has visited affected Eminekpo Community in Ekureku Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Egbona’s visit to Eminekpo was to sympathize with the victims, assess the damage caused by the recent flooding and provide relief for affected natives and residents.
Addressing the affected residents, the reps member gave the assurance that he would take the matter to Abuja and engage the relevant government agencies to seek urgent assistance and support for the affected farmers and community.
He also expressed concern as the flood destroyed farm produce worth millions of naira, including rice, cassava, and other crops, leaving farmers with significant losses.
In another development, Egbona has taken proactive steps to promote peace and provide relief to vulnerable residents of the warring Ugep and Idomi communities following the recent crisis between the two communities.
The relief materials, which included bags of rice, beans, groundnut oil, salt, and hospital nets, were provided to support affected members of both communities during a difficult period.
This humanitarian gesture represented a meaningful contribution towards alleviating the difficulties faced by the people and demonstrates the importance of compassion, solidarity, and community support, particularly during times of crisis.
The intervention also underscored the need for continued collaboration among public office holders, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders in promoting peaceful coexistence, reconciliation, and mutual understanding between neighbouring communities.
Overwhelmed by the gesture, the people of Ugep poured encomium on Egbona for his humanitarian intervention through Tronema, which facilitated the distribution of relief materials to the people of
The community acknowledged Egbona’s role in facilitating this support through Tronema and recognises the importance of such interventions in bringing relief to affected persons and strengthening the bonds of humanity.
As Ugep and Idomi communities continue to work towards lasting peace and harmonious coexistence, gestures of support and understanding remain essential to rebuilding trust, fostering unity, and ensuring a better future for both communities.
Ultimately, the true value of humanitarian intervention lies not only in the relief materials provided but also in the hope it restores, the suffering it helps to ease, and the message of peace and solidarity it conveys.
Ugep and Idomi communities deserve lasting peace, mutual respect, and sustainable development.
