Don Speaks On Health Benefits of Rabbit Meat

In commemoration of this year’s Home Economics Day, marked annually on March 21, the Department of Home Economics of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, has tasked Nigerians on healthy food choices.

The delegation have this charge during a collaboration visit to the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Dr. Gift Worlu, on Tuesday.

Professor Reginah Nchelem Azunwene, revealed that protein sources such as rabbit meat can help improve public health outcomes.

Azunwene who led the delegation on the visit intimated the chairman of the upcoming global celebration, seeking the council’s support and partnership ahead of the event scheduled for March 21.

He explained that World Home Economics Day is a global celebration observed annually on March 21 to highlight the relevance of Home Economics in everyday life.

Speaking on the theme for this year’s celebration, “We Are What We Eat,” Azunwene stressed that many of the diseases prevalent today are nutrition-based.

She added that promoting healthier food choices, including alternative protein sources such as rabbit meat, can help improve public health outcomes.

According to her, the visit was also aimed at identifying with the host local government and fostering stronger collaboration between the institution and the Council in advancing community development initiatives.

In his response, the chairman who was represented by the Vice, Dr. Joyce Nyeche, commended the department for its commitment to promoting home management, nutrition, and family well-being across communities.

He noted that Home Economics remained a critical discipline in shaping responsible homes and healthy societies.

The chairman who assured them of his support, reiterated the council’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives that will positively impact residents of Obio/Akpor.
