Another free medical outreach is underway for the people of Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State, in the next few weeks, courtesy of their representative in the National Assembly, Dr Alex Egbona.
Egbona had, last year, undertaken what was described as the first-of-its-kind comprehensive medical outreach for the people in various primary health centres spread across the federal constituency.
This time, medical professionals are to give attention to eye related issues during the first phase of the outreach expected to hold in Itigidi, headquarters of Abi, and Ugep, headquarters of Yakurr local governments respectively.
All those who have eye related issues, especially those that require surgery and medicated glasses, will have the opportunity of receiving free medicare and glasses during the outreach. The date is to be announced soon, according to Egbona, who was optimistic that the programme will benefit all those with eye issues, no matter their age, gender or political affiliation.
The second phase of a similar free outreach, planned to hold about the same time with the first, will be for the benefit of those with illnesses that require surgery, other than eyes. The outreach will also hold in two different locations in the constituency, simultaneously.
Egbona said on Thursday that he decided to invest on the outreaches and other health related programmes because “health is wealth. No matter what projects I bring to my people, if they are not in good health, they won’t enjoy them.
“It is only the living that can enjoy projects. Many of our people have eye issues. Many have other ailments that require surgery and they cannot afford to pay because of the cost. So, programmes like this are an opportunity for them to get back their health so that they can continue with their life.
“After the last medical outreach, I discovered that there are many people who still need medical attention. So, as many as would come out, they will be given medical attention. But note, the first one will be for eye related issues alone, while the second will be for general health issues that need surgical operation.”
He said efforts would be made to ensure that everybody in all parts of the constituency were informed so that nobody with genuine surgery cases misses the opportunity.
Egbona, who is also the chairman of the House Committee on Specialty Healthcare said he would do his best at all times, to render quality representation in his constituency, adding: “I have the interest of my people at heart and they cannot walk alone.”
