C’River LG Chair Backs Egbona’s Free Medical Outreach, Provides Drinks For Patients
3 min readIn a show of partnership with Dr Alex Egbona, the House of Representatives member from Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State whose free medical outreach for the constituency is becoming a talking point in the area, chairman of Abi LGA, Bassey Egbala on Friday stormed Imabana, one of the centres for the outreach, with water, drinks and snacks for the waiting patients and medical personnel.
His surprising act of benevolence was well applauded by Egbona who re-echoed the service mantra of the state governor, Prince Bassey Otu, saying it has been a season of sweetness for his people as the weeklong comprehensive free medical outreach which he facilitated gradually gets to an end.
Egbona who spoke shortly after monitoring the outreach in Imabana and Ekori on Friday expressed satisfaction with the turn out by the people and the service delivery on the part of the health personnel who handled no fewer than 800 patients with various ailments.
Saying that the state governor was serious about turning bitter waters to sweetness for the people of the state, the lawmaker said what he has been doing in the recent past for the people of Abi/Yakurr was in line with the governor’s mantra of placing the interest of the people first.
While urging Ekori and Imabana people to maintain peace and support the local, state and federal government authorities, Egbona said he would continue to work hard for his people and attract more goodies to the constituency.
Chairman of Abi Local Government, Bassey Egbala who accompanied him to the two centres in Ekori and Imabana where the outreach took place, again commended Egbona for his large heart and expressed his readiness to work for the people, just like the federal lawmaker.
Thursday’s activity was the third day of the medical outreach. Egbona told the people that solar street lights, treated mosquitoe bed nets, solar inverter and boreholes would be provided for the various health centres between now and next year.
Chairman of the Ekori town council, His Highness Joseph Omini who was accompanied by other council members expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for the quality of representation and described him as a man with a soft spot for his constituents.
Mrs Iboli Patrick who spoke at the Imabana centre said she was very happy for opportunity to benefit from the free outreach and also thanked Egbona for always putting the people’s interest first.
Eval Imo Ilogbo, clan head of Lehagha, who also spoke said “I heard about this comprehensive medical outreach through the council of chiefs and we communicate to our people through the local town crier. I came here because of my eyes which have been disturbing for a very long time and I want to appreciate our honourable for giving us this opportunity because the last time we enjoyed such was about a decade ago, and it was not even like this one.”
Another respondent, Gladys Nkanu, from Ward 1, Imabam said “I heard about this initiative when I got to the village that Hon Alex Egbona is doing comprehensive medical outreach and I had to wait and attend because of my eyes and also I have arthritis. I am very grateful to Hon Alex Egbona for always remembering the he people of Imabama.”
Okpen Kanu, a native of Biase who lives in Imabana said “when I heard about this medical outreach I was very happy because I have problem with my sight and that is my reason for coming and I want to also thank Hon. Alex Egbona for giving the people of Imabama such a wonderful medical outreach because many of us cannot afford this if we need to visit a medical facility.”
