C’River Rep Hails Gov Over Decision To Fix Deplorable Yakurr Road

The member representing the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency of Cross River State in the House of Representatives, Dr Alex Egbona is full of gratitude to the state governor, Senator Bassey Otu for taking serious steps to construct the 5KM Mkpani-Agoi Road in the Yakurr Local Government Area.

The lawmaker said the governor’s action was a confirmation of his love for the people in line with his People First mantra. He said the award of contract for the road construction was a huge statement by the governor and a testament to his character.

“I must thank and commend my governor for listening to the cry of our people. I have written to and also had meetings with the governor on this and other very deplorable roads in my constituency and what he told me was that he would do the needful.

“With last week’s announcement that the Mkpani-Agoi road is soon to be constructed, I am overwhelmed with joy, that the governor has hearkened to our cry. This is one road that has been of a great concern to some of us.

“I remember that during the 2023 election campaigns, in the course of my visit to Ago, the road was one of the issues the people presented before me and I remember telling them that the APC government, once it was formed, would deal with the situation.

“I had promised the people that I would work with the APC governor once he is elected, to make sure that the road is fixed. That explains why I kept presenting the issue of the road to the governor. I am happy that at last, we are close to having the road constructed so that our local farmers can easily bring their yields for sale in Ugep, Calabar and other parts of the state.”

Egbona told TNN that he was also hopeful that the other roads that equally need urgent state government’s attention will be fixed, including the Ediba-Usumutong-Ebom-Igoni-goni road and the Ekureku Ring Road.

He urged Abi/Yakurr people to continually support and pray for the governor to enable him succeed, even as he said the people should remain in peace so that more development projects can get to the constituency.
