COVID-19 Scare: NDDC Shut Down, Staff to self isolate for 14 Days

After the death of Mr Ibanga Bassey, who until Thursday, was the acting Executive Director, Finance and Administration, NDDC, the commission has been shut down for 14 days. It was learnt that the decision to shut down came from the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
An internal memo announcing the closure of the commission was issued on Thursday and was endorsed by Mr Silas Anyanwu. It was addressed to directors, heads of departments/units and all staff.
In it, he said “I am directed to inform all staff that management has approved that the commission be shut down for two weeks from today, May 28.
“Consequently, all activities of the commission, including on-going matters are hereby shutdown for the time being. Members of staff are to ensure that all electrical appliances in their offices are switched off before leaving the premises.
“The head security is by this memo directed to work out modalities to ensure the safety and security of the commission while director, administration is expected to fumigate and decontaminate the entire offices and premises in the headquarters during the period.”
TNN learnt that the former EDFA had complained while in Akwa Ibom, that he was not feeling too well, prompting his aides to rush him to the hospital. But he passed on shortly after midnight. It is not clear if he died of COVID-19 or heart attack.
But he and his other colleagues in the interim management committee were expected to appear before the senate on June 4, to defend how they spent N40 billion within a short time.
