Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has hailed the historic achievement of Professor Idayat Bolanle Owolabi, who has been conferred with the prestigious Commander of the British Empire (CBE) honour by His Majesty, King Charles III.

The commendation was announced by NiDCOM’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, who noted that Prof. Owolabi, a graduate of the University of Ibadan, was among the recipients of the King’s Birthday Honours 2025, announced on October 10.

Balogun described the award as a proud moment for Nigeria, adding that Prof. Owolabi’s remarkable contributions to the UK health sector have earned her global recognition and set a high standard for Nigerians in the diaspora.

Hon. Dabiri-Erewa described the honour as historic and a testament to Prof. Owolabi’s excellence, integrity and dedication—qualities she said Nigerians continue to showcase globally.

According to her, “Her success underscores the immense talent in our diaspora community. We are exceedingly proud of her and look forward to more outstanding accomplishments.”

Dabiri-Erewa further emphasised the importance of recognising Nigerians who excel on the global stage, stressing that such honours help place Nigeria on the world map, reshape international perceptions and reinforce the values of professionalism, hard work and national pride.

She reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to celebrating, supporting and working with Nigerians in the diaspora who continue to uplift the country’s image through exceptional service and professionalism.
