The Bayelsa State Government has vowed to deal with staffers of the ministry of education who trivialize their duties and engage in gross misconduct such as truancy and unethical conducts.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emelah Gentle stated this while declaring open a 5-day workshop on self reliance, business, wellness, counselling and retirement planning for civil servants from grade level five to 16 cadre.

The training which started on Monday, was organised by the Bayelsa State Ministry of Education in collaboration with Interweave Solutions International, USA.
The theme of the workshop for management staff, which would end on Friday is “Self Reliance, Business, Wellness Counselling & Retirement Planning.” The aim is to enhance productivity in their various offices.
Over 100 civil servants were recorded to have participated in the first day.
In a welcome address, the education commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Okene Simon-peter, said the training was geared towards developing the capacity of officers and ensuring the training and re-training of workers to make them productive while in service.
Simon-Peter described the exercise as a catalyst of enhancing efficiency in the ministry of education.
He commended Interweave Solutions International USA and urged the participants to take advantage of the training to enhance their capabilities.
He charged participants to be steadfast in the discharged of their duties and use the knowledge that would be acquired during the 5-day worship to add value to the ministry.
Declaring the workshop open, Simon-Peter, cautioned against lukewarm attitude to duties by staffers of the ministry, pointing out that job performance, discipline and total compliance to ethical rule will not be compromised.
He also frowned at a situation where staffers of the ministry trivialize their duties and engage in gross misconduct such as truancy and other unethical conducts, stating that the ministry will not fail to wield the big stick on such persons.
Also speaking, the State Director of Interweave Solutions International Bayelsa, Amb. Jeremiah David, noted that the training is aimed at enhancing the workers to be self reliant, saying the training being conducted by the Interweave Solutions International USA in partnership with the ministry of education would last for five days.
Further, Pastor Alagha Bibi W. E, said the purpose of the training workshop programme is to build a thriving business from ground zero, overcome debts, plan for retirement, enhance your overall productivity, prioritize your mental wellness and to be self reliant after retirement.
