Bayelsa Gov-Elect lnaugurates Transition Committee

The Bayelsa state Governor-elect, Chief David Lyon has inaugurated a transition committee for a smooth take over by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government from the outgoing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) come February 14, 2020.
Inaugurating the committee at the APC Secretariat in Yenagoa, the state capital, Lyon said members of the committee were men of proven integrity carefully selected to interface with the outgoing government for the purposes of a smooth transition.
He said “these are carefully selected vibrant leaders of our great state with common ideas and ideologies. Leadership is upon us now and expectations are very high.
“We cannot afford to disappoint our people. You can recall that when I collected my certificate of return, l clearly stated that we have entered into a contract with the people of Bayelsa state.
“This is our first task to prove our people right in the choice they made in the November 16, 2019 governorship election.
“No doubt, there are many challenges facing us as a people. The onus now lies in us to bring to bear those solutions that we have kept in our hearts for long.
“It is often said that the true test of a man is when you give him power. It is your own responsibility not just to identify the failures of the outgoing administration but also to profer possible solutions to tackle the problems of economy, security, development, infrastructure and other areas that often put government in the negative. This we must do regain the confidence of our people,” he said.
He charged members to discharge their duties as contained in the terms of reference with all sense of dignity and determination.
Parts of the terms of reference for the committee include to review the preliminary assessment of the ballance sheet of government with particular emphasis to cash flow position of the government including specific x-raying with relationship to all banks and financial institutions.
It also has the duty to provide a brief on pension funds administration; note record of outstanding indebtedness on payment of gratuities and allowances to pensioners.
The committee is also to undertake a preliminary assessment of the security challenges facing the state and provide measures to tackle it among other references.
Chairman of the committee and former Acting Governor of the state, Chief Werenipre Seibarugu assured that the committee would not betray the confidence reposed in them.
Former Head of Service of the Bayelsa state civil service, Obioha Oworibor is to serve as secretary of the 59-man transition committee which is to work till handover time.
