As Bayelsa Mourns, Ambitious Politicians Begin Replacement Talks

Hours after the death of the deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewrudjakpor, political dynamics in the state are already changing.

Some politicians are already talking about the likely successor for the office.

Ewrudjakpor hailed from Sagbama and was known to have worked very closely with his boss, the state governor, Senator Douye Diri.

In many social platforms, the two of them would display their dancing expertise.

Diri himself would always boast of having been blessed to work with a very intelligent and trust worry deputy.

Although the state government is yet to officially announce the death of the former deputy governor, his party, the PDP, has done so, with so much pains.

The former deputy governor was said to have suffered a heart attack on Thursday while in his office.

He was said to have presided over two meetings and was getting ready for a third one before the incident.

The PDP, in a statement by the national publicity secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the devastating news had left the party leadershhip in profound grief.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of this hero of political integrity and we pray that God grants his soul eternal rest,” the party said.

TNN learnt that some politicians are already looking at themselves as possible replacement. It is not clear where the next deputy governor would come from.

But the entire state has been in a mournful mood. His aides are yet to come to terms with the incident and are unable to speak on the sudden death of their boss.
