APC Guber Ticket: Lyon, Sylva Know Fate This Saturday
1 min read
This Saturday, the ruling APC will be expected to choose its candidate for the November 2023 governorship election in Bayelsa State. The contest is actually between Chief Timipre Sylva, the immediate past minister of state, petroleum, and David Lyon, the party’s candidate during the 2019 election.
While it is believed that Sylva has the party’s structures in his back pocket, the general perception is that Lyon ought to have been given the ticket, having won the election in 2019 but which mandate was annulled by the Supreme Court for no fault of his.
In the recent past, there has been the concern about the possibility of Lyon getting the ticket, given Sylva’s strength and influence in the party.
Some party members have been quick to remind Sylva of the promise he made in 2019 that he would not present himself for the same election again, and that it was the reason he brought Lyon to run.
Sylva has, however, not spoken on his reason for coming back to contest for the election in 2023. But there are indications that the delegates would support Sylva to win.
