The member representing Abi,/Yakurr Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Alex Egbona has again visited Nko community in Yakurr Local Government with more relief materials, to cushion the effect of their sufferings, following the invasion of their land by soldiers, sometime last year.
The items which were conveyed in three trucks to Nko include foodstuffs, mattresses, bed sheets, blankets, mats, towels, mosquito nets, wheelbarrows, etc were very enthusiastically received by the chiefs and people of Nko community.
Soldiers had invaded Nko last year, following a clash that led to the killing of a soldier. The natives were forced to flee the area. This led to a serious loss of their sources of livelihood.
To solidarise with the people, Egbona had visited and gave them palliatives and cash, while also drawing the attention of the federal government to the plight of the people.
Just when the people were not expecting anything again from him, Egbona returned to Nko on Friday with more goodies for the people, even as he continued to appeal to them to be calm and refuse to go to war with their neighbours.
Speaking while presenting the items at the Obol Lopon’s Palace in Nko, he recalled his strong ties with Nko community going back to his years as a teenager. He said the presentation was in fulfilment of the promise he made during his first visit at the onset of the crisis where he had pledged to use his position to facilitate support from the relevant Federal Government agencies.
responding on behalf of the Obol Lopon of Nko, Elder William Akpama thanked Egbona for keeping to his words. He assured that the community, which has a standing committee that handles the sharing of relief materials, will fairly and equitably distribute the materials to the people.
Like Oliver Twist, he further enjoined the lawmaker to assist the Nko community with getting the government to find a lasting solution to the perennial dispute with Onyedama in Obubra LGA, through a proper boundary delineation.
Also speaking, Mrs. Esther Bepeh, a former house of assembly member and foremost female politician from the area remarked that the visit was ample evidence that Egbona holds Nko in his heart and added that Nko will wholly support him to realize his political aspirations.
