In a bid to ensure the safety of lives and properties during this festive period, Rivers State Police Command has fortified its security outlets in the state.
State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan disclosed this to newsmen during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt. He said the command has set up stringent measures to fight criminal elements in the state.
“Recall that on assumption of duty as the 40th Commissioner of Police in April this year, I met some challenging situations on ground. But with the benefit of hindsight, I re-strategized and repositioned my men, with the strong charge to embark on aggressive intelligence-driven policing, with a view to gathering actionable information, which ultimately led to the dislodgement of the criminals. A case in point, being the arrest of the most dreaded gang leader, Honest Diigbara (Aka Bobisky) who was declared wanted by the State Government with a Bounty of Thirty Million Naira. He was eventually arrested and the bounty redeemed”, the CP revealed.
He added that, “the Command is not oblivious of the fact that, this is the period where criminals take advantage to unleash havoc on unsuspecting persons. In view of the above therefore, we have put in place elaborate and workable measures that will contain and curtail these nefarious activities.”
He further warned that residents must strictly observe COVID-19 protocols particularly the presidential directives on gathering of persons, among others. He averred that defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
He stressed that, “we are here to protect lives and property. Nothing more, nothing less. And I will do everything in my power to guarantee that their fundamental rights are protected and to
minimize Police misuse of firearms and extra judicial killings. The respect for Human rights is, sacrosanct and must be obeyed by our men.”
