Apparently not ready to be brow-beaten by hunger in the name of opposition politics, some leaders of the Young Progressives Party, the Labour Party and the Social Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State have decided to dump their respective political parties for the PDP.

The party leaders made their decisions known when they visited the state PDP chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan on Thursday, at the party secretariat in Uyo.

The delegation was said to be led by an elder statesman and house of assembly candidate under the YPP during the last election, Mr Ben Victor Nkanang. He was a member of the APC in 2019 where he contested for the same office but failed.

With him were Mr Abijah A. Abijah, the chapter vice chairman, YPP, Lawrence Christopher -chapter secretary, YPP, Iboro Stephen – ward chairman from Midim 1, Wisdom Ime Okon and a ward chairman from Otoro 2, also from the YPP.

A few weeks ago, the leader of YPP in Akwa Ibom and candidate of the party for the gubernatorial election, Obong Bassey Albert, popularly called OBA, had left the YPP to join the APC.

The Rev Aniekan Obot, a factional chairman of the SDP as well as Janet Okure, a chapter women leader of the same party, alongside Inyene Samuel Essien, the state legal adviser and Effiong Akpanaha, the chapter treasurer of the LP, among others, were also part of those who visited the PDP chairman to announce their defection.

The PDP chairman, while receiving the defectors gave them the expected assurance, that they would be given fair opportunities in the party, even as he urged them to support the programmes of the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno.
