The political crisis in Rivers State between the Minister of FCT, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and his successor, the governor of the state, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has taken another dimension.
This is as 27 state House of Assembly Members, believed to be loyal to Wike, dumped the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, for the All Progressives Congress APC.

The Rivers lawmakers announced their defection to the APC on Monday, in their sitting on the floor of the house.
In an exclusive interview with TNN, the member representing Obio/Akpor Constituency 11, Mrs. Emilia Lucky Amadi, who also defected to the APC gave reasons for the shocking defection.
She explained that there was no peace in the PDP, both in the states and national.
According to her “Constitutionally, you can only defect when there is division in a party, when a party is no longer conducive and favourable for the constituency, the people that we represent, when we can no longer carry out the functions why we were been elected.

“The hallowed chamber was burnt down and uptil today nothing has been said of it, nothing had been done.
“For our salaries, monies meant for assembly, the governor has seized it, how then do we represent our people?”
Amadi accused the governor of making the PDP in the state unfavourable.
She added that, “when we talk about party, we talk both national, for now, you want to make a complaint, you want to find out something; inquiry, I think you need to write to national, for now, PDP has no national secretariat, they are in faction, uptil now we don’t have national secretariat, so there is problem everywhere; Enugu there is problem, and other states. There is no peace in PDP.”
Reacting to how their defection would bring solution to their grievances against the state governor, Amadi said, “to a great extent we are now joining the renewed hope of Asiwaju, the renewed hope to bring the dividends of democracy to door steps.
“By the time we meet him, we tell him all our problems as a state, he knows what to do.”
The lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor Constituency 11, further debunked the rumour that Wike masterminded their defection. “He is not aware of our defection, he is not aware. Has he defected? he is still a member of PDP.”
