Wanted: Rural Road Maintenance Agency For Bayelsa
1 min readUntil a rural road maintenance agency is set up in Bayelsa State, it will be difficult for the state to benefit from the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project(RAAMP), according to the Director of Development Transport Solution Limited and Transport Consultant to the World Bank, Maysam Abadin.
Abadin said at an online sector reform consultation workshop with Bayelsa and Jigawa states stakeholders that there was an urgent need for the Bayelsa government to initiate a legal framework for the set up of the agency.
He said stated when established, the agency which would expectedly ensure that rural roads remain motorable to boost the economy of the state, would run independent of the state government for it to be effective and sustainable.
The agency when set up, would also lead to the establishment of the state road fund.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Chairman, Bayelsa RAAMP State Project Management Committee, Dr Wisdom Ebiye Sawyer said the RAAMP had a huge potential for linking many rural roads and urged all stakeholders to work towards the establishment of the road agency.
