Veteran Journalist Bags Lion Club Award

Lions Club International District 404A2, Nigeria has conferred the Founts of Service Award on Obol Sam Arikpo for his meritorious services to humanity in the area of media and publicity.
Presenting the award, District Governor for 2020-2021 administrative year, Elder Soni Omini Eloma described Arikpo a revered patriot whose contributions have translated to a reservoir of achievements projecting the integrity of the club.

The district governor disclosed that despite the turbulence of year 2020.occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic, the Lions Clubs, through the activities of Arikpo, fared well, achieving great strides within the nine regions of the club’s jurisdiction.

He listed the interventions of the club to include awareness campaigns on the test, treatment and control of diabetes, correction and removal of sight impairments, including glaucoma and cataracts, through medical experts.

Experts within the region, tree planting to mitigate climate change and recycling of waste materials for human use.
The District Governor intimated that the most notable of his programs were the renovation of the 36- bed pediatric oncology complex of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital and the Mpape Health centre of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

He said that other projects executed within the year under review abound in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi , adding that the Henshaw Town and At u Health Centres in Calabar while an e- library would would soon be delivered for use by the Calabar capital City Lions Club.
Responding, Chief Sam Arikpo who said he was humbled and encouraged to do More for the society commended officials and members of the Lions Club International for the honour done him.

He extolled the virtues of the District Governor describing him as a Visionary leader for whom ‘the sky will be your starting point.
Arikpo said he dedicated the award to God Almighty for giving him the opportunity to serve humanity, Senator Victor Ndoma- Egba (SAN) who stood by him throughout his tenure as President of his club and the Late Lion Helen Ogar for being his motivator.
