UNICROSS Don To Deliver Lecture At WASCO’s 50th Anniversary Dinner • PDP Chair, Idem, Others For Awards

A professor of environmental  and public health parasitology at the University of Cross River State, Calabar, Prof Iniodu Ukpong, will deliver a public lecture at the 50th anniversary dinner organised by the alumni of the premier secondary school in Akwa Ibom State, the Western Annang Secondary Commercial School, WASCO.

Ukpong, himself an alumnus, will speak on the topic, WASCO: The abandoned Hen and her golden eggs on Saturday, December 16, at the council hall of Ukanafun Local Government secretariat, Ukanafun, by 1pm.

On the same day, some selected alumni and friends of the school would be recognised with awards, among them the state chairman of PDP in Akwa Ibom State, who was once a teacher in the school, as well as a member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Unyime Idem, a member of the state house of assembly, Hon. Emem Udom and his predecessor, Dr Charity Ido as well as a foremost educationist, Dr Uwem Akpanuko.

A statement by the chairman, publicity sub -committee of the anniversary planning team, Mr Ofonime Umanah on Tuesday said the lecturer has already confirmed his readiness for the event.

The statement also said all WASCO alumni will be expected at the school premises in their uniform of white shirt and light blue short(for the old boys)and a white shirt and light blue skirt(for the old girls) on Friday, December 15, when the anniversary would start.

On the 15th, Idem, who is also an alumnus, will be expected to perform the unveiling of the school’s ICT centre which construction will be championed by the alumni association. Idem had earlier donated about 40 sets of computers to the school.

Other activities lined up for the anniversary include a debate involving current students of the school, a novelty football match between the school’s old boys and the current students. The two events will hold on the same Friday, December 15.

The anniversary would be rounded off with a thanksgiving service on Sunday December 17, at the Glorious Palace of Liberty Ministry, Ukanafun.
