Unical VC Pledges Continuous Cooperation With NPF

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu has pledged more robust cooperation with the Nigerian police towards combating crime.

Akpagu made the pledge when the new Commissioner of Police in the state paid a courtesy call on him in his office.

Describing the police as one of the best structured institution in the country that need collaboration from other sectors and individuals to function optimally, he promised to join forces with the Cross River State command to combat crime in the institution.

According to him, “My administration has recorded some successes in the area of crime reduction in the university and will continue to synergize with the Police to ensure absolute peace and tranquility on campus.”

The Vice Chancellor who described the visit as ‘timely’ said the collaboration would further cement the already cordial relationship between the institution and the Police.

In his words, “Security is everyone business and as such all hands must be on deck to arrest this unrest in our society. On our part, we will ensure that the needed support is given to the security agents so that they can functions optimally in the discharge of their duties for fruitful results.”

On his part, the new Commissioner of Police, Nkereuwem Akpan described his posting to Cross River State Command as home coming, even as he applauded the Vice Chancellor for providing the enabling environment for his men to strive.

The Police Chief who decried the high rate of crime in the country called on relevant stakeholders, including the University Community, to contribute their quota by giving useful information to enable the Police checkmate the nefarious activities of criminals.
