UNICAL To Announce Resumption Date Today

Senate of the University of Calabar will be meeting today to approve an academic calendar for the 2019/2020 academic session which was abruptly cut short because of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the first quarter of last year.
In the release signed by the school registrar, Gabriel O. Egbe both teaching and non-teaching staff are advised to resume today while the resumption date will be communicated accordingly after the senate must have deliberated and agreed on a particular date.
It reads: “Following repeated posting of fake information on social media by unknown individuals, concerning resumption of academic activities in the University of Calabar, it has become expedient to inform members of the University community, Our dear students and indeed, the general public that the University Senate shall be meeting on Monday, January 18, 2021 to consider and approve the revised academic calendar for the 2019/2020 academic session. Thereafter, approved date for full resumption of academic activities shall be appropriately communicated.

“We therefore urge members of the public to discountenance all unofficial
information making rounds on social media.
“Meanwhile, all staff (Teaching and Non-Teaching) of the University are to resume work on Monday, January 18, 2021 as earlier announced. They are expected to adhere strictly to all Covid-19 precautionary measures while in their places of work.”
When TNN contacted the chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities of the institution, Dr. Edor J. Edor to ascertain the level of preparations on ground he said, “until Senate meets and they give directive to us, it is then we can start accessing the level of preparation. We cannot access any level of preparation for now.”
