Port Harcourt based Disc Jockeys(DJs) and music artistes have been in tears, expressing great dismay over the murder of popular Port Harcourt based DJ, Flexzy Wheelz.
Flexzy who is a renowned music jockey was among those who lost their lives on Valentine’s eve. According to reports, he was shot dead by unknown gunmen around the Alakahia community while returning to his house after the night event where he performed.
TNN gathered that before he was shot, he was first dispossessed of his phone. Unconfirmed reports said that Flexzy was killed in the presence of his girlfriend who sources said was only robbed of her phone but was not harmed.
Flexy is a regular DJ at a popular night club in Obio/Akpor local government area of Rivers State. Speaking with TNN on the incident, DJ Kelly described the incident as a serious threat to Port Harcourt based entertainers.
According to him, “Na who wey entertainers for this country quench him fire say make him water no boil, Na who we offend wey say our water to use bake garri no go boil? This one pain me, DJ Flexy death pain me.”
“It’s not our fault. This is our occupation, our talent. God gave it to us, we are not robbers, we did not choose guns, we chose to earn through entertaining people. This is heartbreaking, DJ Flexzy is gone just like that.”
Kelly further called on security authorities to investigate and bring those responsible to book.
Again, fast rising Afro pop singer, Owojaiye Temidayo Peter, popularly known as D-Yong Owojaiye also spoke with TNN. He said“I’m still in shock. I was supposed to perform in the show but I called him to tell him that I won’t be able to and he said no problem. I never believed it, Flexy gone, killed just like that.”
“This is what we do, most of us are graduates, some undergraduates, others none but this is what God deposited in us through which we have been surviving. It’s so painful. Why should anyone go after an entertainer? We are struggling to earn a living decently, yet it feels so unsafe.”
D Yong who also charged the police to bring the culprits to book, adding that “I want to advise entertainers, in as much as our job requires us to stay out late, move about late, we should be cautious. Remember you are responsible for your safety and security, you can stay back till it’s dawn after a show and go early enough to the event. Again don’t walk in a lonely path; Nigeria no longer look like what we had while we were growing up, now someone gets shot while returning from work.”
