Sylva: One Day, Many Troubles

The former Governor of Bayelsa State and immediate past Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva has landed in fresh troubled waters.

The Bayelsa born politician has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged embezzlement of 14.8 million dollars.

A statement issued on Monday by the Head of Media and Publicity of the anti graft agencies, Mr. Dele Oyewale reads:

“The public is hereby notified Timipre Sylva, a former Governor of Bayelsa State, whose photograph appears above is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $24,859,257-part of funds injected by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) into Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for the construction of a refinery.

“Sylva, 61, is from Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa state. This notice is pursuant to a November 6, 2025 warrant of the Lagos state High Court.”

The statement urged the general public to volunteer useful information as to the whereabouts of the former petroleum minister.

It could be recalled that Sylva’s latest ordeal started when his Abuja and Bayelsa homes were raided by military security operatives and his domestic aide whisked away while the former governor was said to be out of the country.

It was also rumoured that Sylva was allegedly linked to a coup plot, though the Nigerian military denied any coup attempt aimed at overthrowing the current civilian government led by President Bola Tinubu.
