Sylva: I’m best to fly APC Guber flag, Effect Change In Bayelsa • Speaks on Running Mate

2 min read

Governorship candidate of the APC for the November 11 election in Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva on Saturday defended his decision to present himself for the election, months after he had vowed not to contest for the same office again.

Last year, Sylva had said at a radio station in Yenagoa, that he was done with contesting as governor and that he was going to look for a credible member of the party to run against the PDP.

But he did not keep the promise, an action that has attracted the ire of the people of Bayelsa State who now see him as someone that cannot not be trusted when it comes to keeping promises.

On Saturday, while speaking with journalists in Yenagoa, Sylva said he decided to change his mind because he has come to the realisation that was the best person for the job of causing the needed change in the state. He said the decision to go back on his earlier vow was for the sake of Bayelsa State.

Sylva also spoke on the issue of his running mate. He said he was shopping for someone who will compliment him, someone who would have some qualities that he was lacking, so that they could work better.

He said the party chairman, Dennis Otiotio, was working with him on the search and noted that a preferred choice would be unveiled soon.

On his rift with a former minister of state for agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Sylva said Lokpobiri may have been angry with him for not supporting him in 2019 when he wanted to fly the APC flag as governorship candidate.

He said he did not support him because it would have been wrong for him to support another governor from the same Bayelsa West where the then governor, Seriake Dickson came from.

Sylva however said there was no personal issue between them and that they were on the path of reconciliation ahead of the battle before the party.
