A chieftain of the APC in Rivers State, Eze Chukuemeka Eze has said it will be difficult for the speaker of the state house of assembly, Martins Amaewhule, to take over from Sim Fubara as governor without going through the electoral processes.
Saying that Amaewhule’s dream was to use the impeachment path to become the next governor, Eze said the speaker was merely day-dreaming, as that would amount to passing through the back door to enter the office.
On Thursday, Amaewhule had recalled his colleagues from recess for the purpose of impeaching the governor for what they called gross misconduct. About 26 of the lawmakers believed to be loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike had signed the notice.
Apparently in a hurry to execute the agenda, the authors of the impeachment notice addressed the governor as a ‘madam’, but they had addressed the deputy governor, Ngozi Odu, correctly.
Their latest effort in getting the governor out of the way-the third in less than three years-has expectedly attracted the ire of various stakeholders from within and outside the state, especially as the lawmakers now target the governor and his deputy.
The implication is that if they succeed in removing the duo, the speaker will naturally take over, paving the way for Wike to effectively take charge of the state and its resources.
But Eze said in an interview that the plot would fail, describing as war against the people of Rivers State. “It is not impeachment but declaration of war against Rivers State by Wike and his allies.
“Should they succeed, there will be no peace and progress in the state. I expect Tinubu if he truly loves the state and peace of the state, to call Wike and his idiotic followers to order or else he will pay for it come 2027.”
Saying that Wike had insulted the people of the state for too long, Eze added that “if the so called Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, Martin wants to be governor, he should formally present himself for election come 2027 and not going thru the backdoor as he will never succeed
“It is a shame that Wike should be going around abusing and threatening both the President and the leadership of APC and Tinubu is just watching him as a zombie without calling him to order.”
