Rivers Speaker Resigns, Quits Assembly Seat?

2 min read

Is it true that the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie has resigned from his office? Is it also true that he has decided to vacate his seat as member representing  the Ahoada East Constituency 2 in the state house of assembly?

A letter to that effect is believed to have been written and signed by him and addressed to the national chairman of INEC dated December 29 was sent to TNN on Sunday night, but efforts to confirm its authenticity was fruitless as at the time of this report.

TNN called the state commissioner for information, Mr Joe Johnson on Sunday night, but he said he needed time to confirm from Ehie himself before speaking on the matter.

But a close confidant of the speaker confirmed to TNN that the speaker has actually resigned. The source, a political stakeholder in Ahoada confided in TNN that the speaker actually made his plans known since last week.

According to him, the resignation was done because of the on-going tussle between the immediate past governor, Nyesom Wike and the governor, Sim Fubara. He said the speaker decided to quit for the sake of peace.

Calls to the speaker on Sunday night were rejected.

One of the terms of the Abuja Peace Accord which the governor promised to implement was for the recall of the 25 former members of the state house of assembly whose seats were declared vacant by Ehie, after they defected to the APC.

Although, the governor had said he would not do anything that would affect the integrity of the oath he swore.
