The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Charles Wobodo, has announced fresh security measures restricting the operations of commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as okada, within the council area.
Under the new directive, motorcycle movements will be prohibited from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily across the 13 wards of the LGA.
The restriction takes effect from Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
Wobodo also directed all motorcycle operators in the area to report to the Council Secretariat to obtain official operational number vests. The measure, according to him, is part of efforts to enhance security and ensure proper identification of riders operating within the LGA.
In a related development, the council has placed an immediate ban on hunting activities across the LGA. Hunters have been advised to report to the Council Headquarters for profiling and approval before engaging in any hunting activities.
The chairman further reiterated that the existing ban on scrap dumps and scavenging activities in the LGA remains in force.
He warned that violators of the new directives would face the full weight of the law.
The decisions, according to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Wariso Wariso, followed a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Council Secretariat on February 20, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen security and maintain public order in the area.
