In his commitment to human capacity building, end insecurity and ensure the development of his people, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Khana LGA in Rivers State, Ambassador Marvin Yobana, has held a stakeholders meeting with traditional rulers, CDC executives and youths.
The highpoints of the meeting which was held at the council secretariat, on Tuesday, was the announcement of the launch of a neighborhood watch, approval of stipend for traditional rulers, verification of community representatives’ list, among others.
Addressing the crowd, the CTC Chair said “on behalf of the Caretaker Committee of Khana Local Government Area, I want to thank you, all the leaders in the various communities in Khana LGA, chiefs, traditional rulers, the CDC, the youth leaders for bringing back the list we requested. Because you are ready, the Khana local government is ready to work with you.
“The purpose of this thing we are doing is to bring government back to the people, you become the owners of government, you partner with the government at the centre because that is what the governor of the state, Sir Siminalayi Fubara asked us to come and do in Khana LGA.

“To go back to the traditional rulers and identify what their problems are, community by community so that we interact with them one on one.
“The last meeting we held you mentioned intimidating, indiscriminate arrest of traditional rulers and others and we have discussed with the security heads and they have assured us that as long as you do what is lawful that type of harassments will not continue again in Khana, the DPO Bori has also assured me that no traditional ruler will be arrested in the midnight, but on your part you have to ensure that you do not constitute yourselves to the security bridge in the local government.
“We are going to work with you as a family. I want to say that the CTC of Khana local government has approved to monthly give traditional rulers small stipends(sic) for their running around.”
Giving a message from the governor of the state, Yobana said “the governor of Rivers State has asked me to tell the traditional rulers in Khana local government that you are the custodians of peace and security in this local government and as long as you keep on doing that that he is going to through the CTC Khana Local Government release an official bus for the Khana Council of Traditional Rulers. And we are also going to ensure that you have Khana Council of Traditional Rulers Secretariat in Khana.”
The CTC chair also affirmed his commitment in the fight against insecurity with the launch of a Neighborhood Watch this weekend.
Expressing their gratitude on behalf of the traditional rulers, the paramount ruler of Nyo-wii Baen/Meae Bua Baen, HRH Mene Daniel Fyneface Nwidag, highly commended the CTC chairman, describing him as a blessing to the LGA.
“On behalf of the chiefs here, from what we have heard from the chairman of council we know we are blessed. The governor has actually given us enabling environment for our place to be developed, now that the chairman has come we are very, very grateful.
“We have heard all you have said and we ourselves should also play our own part by making sure that there is peace in our various communities.
The CDC chairman of Yobeeri Community, Pastor Samson Baridaga, urged Yobana to contest the forthcoming LG Election, assuring that he and his household would vote for him.
In another development, the Bangha Ward 7 Simplified Youths Movement has described Yobana’s appointment as the spokesperson for Council of Chairmen’s Forum as a wonderful testimony of his political progress and an opportunity for him to contribute in tackling the disturbing issues affecting the LGAs in the state.
The youths who represented the newly inaugurated members of the group, stated this when they paid a courtesy visit to the chairman to thank him for his fearless, visionary, transparent and intelligent leadership.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ward 7 Simplified Youth Leader, Mr. Goodluck Pyagbara, condemned the assertion that the Khana CTC chairman was running a non-inclusive government.
Pyagbara also assured him of their support for the Fubara led state government and the CTC chairman.
In his response, Yobana sai, “Khana is the traditional headquarters of the senatorial district and this is the first time that Rivers South East Senatorial District is having an executive governor.
“Not just having an executive governor, somebody that the Khana people have adopted as their own son. I am right to say that we have our son as the governor of Rivers State so this government is our government, because of this, the Khana people must own this government as their own government.”
