Rivers FIDA Urges Support For Women Empowerment On Int’l Women’s Day

The International Federation of Women Lawyers FIDA, Rivers State branch, has said that the International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8, is a time to reflect on the achievements of women worldwide, while also recognizing the challenges they continue to face.

They described it is an opportunity to advocate for gender equality, women’s rights, and the advancement of women in all sectors of society.

FIDA Chairperson in the state, Adata Bio-Briggs, and the publicity secretary/editor, Sophia. I. J. Afolayan, stated this in a statement made available to TNN to mark the 2024 International Women’s Day.

The non-profit, non-political, voluntary association of women lawyers who protect, promote and preserve the rights of women and children in Nigeria, said, “FIDA Nigeria, Rivers State branch is proud to join the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day 2024 under the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.”

“This day serves as a reminder of the importance of gender equality and the empowerment of women in accelerating societal progress.

“FIDA Nigeria, Rivers State branch reaffirms its commitment to promoting the rights of women and girls in the state. Through our various initiatives, including legal aid services, advocacy campaigns, and community outreach programs, we strive to create a more inclusive and equitable society where women can thrive and reach their full potential.

“This year’s theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” emphasizes the importance of investing in women’s education, health, economic empowerment, and leadership opportunities. By investing in women, we not only improve their lives but also contribute to the overall development and prosperity of our communities and nation.”

The association announced that, “as part of our commemoration of International Women’s Day 2024, FIDA Nigeria, Rivers State branch will be organizing series of events and activities aimed at raising awareness about gender equality issues and highlighting the contributions of women to society.

“These activities will include seminars, workshops, panel discussions, and community outreach programs. We invite individuals, organizations, and stakeholders across Rivers State to join us in celebrating International Women’s Day 2024 and to take action to support women’s empowerment and gender equality.”

They explained that “FIDA Nigeria, Rivers State Branch is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of women and children in Rivers State. Through legal aid services, advocacy campaigns, and community outreach programs, FIDA Nigeria, Rivers State branch works to ensure access to justice and gender equality for all.”
