Members of the Bera Community in the Gokana Local Government Area of Ogoni, Rivers State, have been charged to take responsibility for maintaining the newly commissioned solar-powered borehole.
This charge was given by the Director General of the Martin Duutura Foundation, Comrade Martin Duutura, during the donation of the facility, where he urged natives and residents to ensure its proper use.
He also charged Bera people to protect the water taps, and promote regular maintenance to guarantee its long-term sustainability.
Duutura revealed that the project was part of the foundation’s effort to ensure availability of potable water to its inhabitants,
He disclosed that the foundation started the project following the difficulties that residents encountered in accessing potable water.
Overwhelmed residents poured encomium on the foundation, even as they expressed hope that the solar powered water borehole would ease their burden of accessing clean water.
Speaking on behalf of the Bera people, factional chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN, Rivers State chapter, Dr. Nwisabari Bani, enjoined Ogonis, especially the youths, to lead community development efforts through selfless service.
The NYCN boss, while commissioning the the project noted that one does not require being in any public office to contribute meaningfully to community development.
According to Bani, provision of potable water is an intervention that will make life better for the people of the community because availability of potable water is very important for sustainable community development.
He further commended Duutura, for addressing one of the major needs of the people.
Bani encouraged other benevolent Ogonis, especially young influential ones, to follow the footsteps of the project by engaging in similar projects that will be geared towards improving the quality of life in their respective communities through sustainable grassroot developments.
