Following the alleged invasion of a woman’s privacy and watching her nakedness by a policeman simply identified as Mr. Benjamin attached to Mile 1 Diobu Divisional Police Headquarters, a human rights advocacy group, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has petitioned the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday.
In a petition dated September 6, 2021, signed by its National Coordinator, Prince Wiro, as made available to TNN, the group urged the police commissioner to order an investigation into the alleged invasion of the room of one Miss Ebube (surname withheld) at Ogwa street, Mile 1 Diobu Port Harcourt by the police officer and the threat to fire a shot at her when the lady who said she was staked naked as at the time the officer invaded her privacy asked the policeman to leave her room to enable her dress up.
Wiro posited that a thorough investigation is required to ensure justice to all the parties involved.
Narrating her ordeal, the twenty years old Ebube, said that about 2pm last Sunday, September 5, 2021 she was naked and about dressing up in her room when a man on mufti who later turned out to be the accused(Benjamin) invaded her room while she was still naked.
She explained that when she and another lady in the room asked the officer to leave the room, he threatened to fire a shot at both of them if they utter more word while he allegedly continued watching her nakedness under the guise of searching for her elder brother.
Meanwhile, one Miss Blessing Chukwu who witnessed the incident explained that the policeman who invaded the room in the guise of searching for Ebube’s brother, saw Ebube naked and threatened to fire a shot at her when she asked the officer to leave the room to allow her sister dress up.

In the meantime, the brother to Ebube, Chima Joe in the same petition to the Commissioner accused officer Benjamin of detaining him illegally and extorting twenty thousand naira from him.
Chima claimed the officer said his offence was for not separating a fight between two women in the compound while they were fighting.

He added that he was not involved in the fight between two women in his compound and wondered the basis for his arrest, and alleged extortion of twenty thousand naira from him.
As at press time, it was revealed that the Commissioner has minuted the case to human rights desk at the police headquarters, Moscow road for thorough investigation.
