Residents Seek Justice For Man Killed In Rivers

Following the unfortunate death of Mr. Samuel Awuzuruike who was allegedly killed by 23-year-old Chibueze Ojirome in Ubima Community of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, residents have called on the Rivers State police command to ensure that the spirit of the departed finds rest by bringing his killer to book.
The incident which happened last last week was confirmed by the police spokesperson, Nnamdi Omoni in an interview with journalists, where he said, “l can confirm the unfortunate incident of Ubima where one Chibueze Ojirome 23 years old without justification gave several machete cuts on one Samuel Awuzuruike which caused his death.”
Awuzuruike was reported to have been allegedly hacked to death by Ojirome following a misunderstanding that erupted over the killing of a goat belonging to the deceased.
According to a native of the community, the deceased victim went to the house of Mr. Ojiriome and accused him of stealing and killing his goat.
The native revealed that an argument broke out and the suspect took a machete and allegedly cut Awuzuruike severally, which led to his death.
Condemning the act, a human rights activist in Rivers State, Amadi Paul Onuoha who is a native of Ubima, called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, a woman who introduced herself to TNN as Mrs. Ijeoma Wopara said “Samuel’s spirit will not rest until the police make sure that his killer face judgment, his spirit will not rest, the police should make sure that his killer is done something (sic).”
For another who gave his name as simply Mr. Kingsley “this is indeed an unfortunate incident, his goat was killed, now, him too that owns the goat is gone, see how he was macheted (sic) over goat, if he had known he would have just called the police for them to handle the matter.

“It has happened, but the police will have to teach the person that did this a lesson so people will stop carrying knife, harmful instrument, axe, even bottle and using it on people over simple matters that should not cost somebody’s life.”
He also gave kudos to the local vigilante group in the community, OSPAC, who was reported to have apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the police division in Ubima.
While investigation is ongoing, the victim’s corpse has been deposited in the mortuary and normalcy restored in the community.
