Pandemonium struck the Ka-Bori community in Khana Local Government Area of Ogoni in Rivers State, following the invasion of the community in the early hours of Sunday, August 29, by unknown gunmen.
Speaking on the grounds of anonymity, a native of the community said two women and a man were allegedly shot during the attack. Out of the three gun victims, the native disclosed that the man and one of the women shot died in the process while the second woman was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where she is receiving treatment.
She said that the police and other security agencies have moved into the community to restore normalcy but added that no arrest has been made.
Though it is yet to be confirmed who those gunmen were, why they invaded the community, shot sporadically and allegedly killed some residents, but, the native blamed the incident on Boue community.
According to her, “Boue people entered Ka-Bori, shot three persons, one man died, one woman died, the other woman is in the hospital. Police is there now, the situation there now is calm.”
Another resident who gave his name simply as Mr. Barry confirmed that the shooting had subsided. Describing what happened, he said “around 6am, we woke up and started hearing sporadic gunshots from Ka-Bori, Looyoo axis of Bori and the shooting lasted for over 30 to 35 minutes.
“For now because the security agencies have moved in to maintain the order and normalcy, but we are hearing unconfirmed report that two persons were killed, then a house burnt, then about two persons abducted alive by unknown gunmen around Ka-Bori, Looyoo axis of Bori.”
The Public Relations Officer of Kono-Boue Community Development Committee CDC, Nwibakpo Golden has described as untrue, the insinuation that people of his community, Boue is responsible for the attack.
Nwibakpo in a telephone interview said “that is false, Kono-Boue are still mourning the five persons that they lost on Monday this week, they have not been able to even bury some of them because they were littered, the dead bodies were littered in the bush, so somebody can still imagine when the people are in various IDP camps in Bori, some are walking on the streets in Bori and this morning how could they have planned attack from Kono-Boue pass Tuwa-Boue, other places? That is pure lies and that is blasphemy, it’s not true, they cannot do that because they are still mourning their own, that is not true, yes, that is not true.”
Last Monday August 23, 2021, natives of Kono-Boue and Gwara in Khana local government area of Rivers State deserted their communities following invasion of the area by unknown gunmen and reported killing of three persons.
